India’s Batting Performance
India’s start was not very well after losing their opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad at an early start of 3-1 in 0.5 overs. The partnership was not maintained constantly like in their previous match, by losing quick wickets. South Africa’s strong bowling and fielding performance prevented India to reach a high total in this match.
Only a 45-run partnership was strengthened between Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer till 6.4 overs. But India lost their 2nd wicket at 48-2 in 6.4 overs, as Ishan Kishan had to depart early scoring 34 runs in 21 deliveries(including 2 fours and 3 sixes). India scored 46-1 in their first powerplay.
Shreyas Iyer was the highest scoring batsman in India’s 1st innings by scoring 40 runs from 35 balls (including 2 fours and 2 sixes) but lost his wicket at 98-5 in 13.5 overs. Also, India reached their 100-run mark only in the 15th over of the match.
Dinesh Karthik’s 30 runs in 21 balls (2 fours and 2 sixes) in the final phase of India’s first innings helped India reach the total of 148/6 in 20 overs which was less than the average score estimated
Dinesh Karthik along with Harshal Patel managed to score 30 runs in the last 2overs helping India to reach a total near 150.
But, Dinesh Karthik proves himself why he is brought into the Indian team once again and plays the role of a good finishing batsman for India. According to the reports, the average score estimated on this pitch would be around 160-170 in 1st innings.
South Africa’s Batting performance
South Africa’s 2nd innings with the bat had not started well. South Africa lost their three wickets early as things seemed to be in India’s control till the first powerplay. South Africa scored 29-3 in their first powerplay, which was a less score than India scoring 42-1 in the first 6 overs. South Africa batsmen had to depart early as Reeza Hendricks (4 runs from 3 balls), Dwaine Pretorius (4 runs from 5 balls) and Rassie van der Dussen (1 run from 7 balls ) did not perform well.
South Africa captain and opening batsman Temba Bavuma scored 35 runs in 30 balls (including 4 fours and 1 six) and maintained a 64-run-partnership with Heinrich Klaasen. But the captain had to depart at 93-4 in 12.2 overs after being bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal.
Heinrich Klaasen was the top performer of the match by scoring 81 runs off just 46 deliveries (including 7 fours and 5 sixes) and maintained a 51- run-partnership along with David miller. India was finally able to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen at 144-5 in 16.6 overs. But it was too late as things were out of control and Heinrich Klaasen’s top performance ensured South Africa towards the winning total.
Overall Performance of India vs South Africa
South Africa won their 2nd T20 by 4 wickets against India with 10 balls to spare. With this win, South Africa lead this series 2-0 against India. Heinrich Klaasen was awarded “player of the match” for his outstanding performance.
It is a must-win situation for India to win all the remaining 3 matches in order to win this series. India vs South Africa 3rd T20 match is scheduled on 14th June 2022(Tuesday) in Vishakapatnam at 7:00 pm IST. India has to win the 3rd T20 in order to keep their hopes alive of winning this series.
India has to improve a lot, especially in their bowling and fielding aspects. In the first T20 match, India was not able to defend their high total of 210 against South Africa. Also, the absence of KL Rahul in this series has been one of the reasons being reflected in the first two matches.
Rishabh Pant as a new young captain of the Indian cricket team has a lot of new experiences to learn and implement new strategies in the upcoming matches. He has to improve a lot in his captaincy in the upcoming matches.
Also, it would be a challenging task for India as South Africa plays with most of their key players and India plays without important players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul. But at the same time, it would be new learning for all the youngsters to improve their talents. The extra players of the Indian Cricket team should be given a chance in the upcoming matches of this series.
